Full-Service IMb made mandatory Jan. 2014

The Postal Service plowed ahead, no doubt running over some small mailers, in deciding to implement the mandatory “Full-Service” Intelligent Mail Barcode, effective Jan. 26, 2014, when the next postage price increases are to happen.
Service Standards changes last July cause additional delays for non-local mail copies

The U.S. Postal Service last month announced that it would move up 55 plant consolidations scheduled for 2014 into 2013, creating many more changes in service standards that have bedeviled newspapers. That will bring the total number of plant consolidations to 166 by year-end, a recipe for disaster with so much change in one year.
Newspapers face softened requirement in 2014 for Intelligent Mail barcodes

Newspapers claiming automation mailing rates for their Periodicals newspapers or Standard Mail flats not eligible for Enhanced Carrier Route rates face new hurdles on Jan. 26, 2014, as the U.S. Postal Service’s mandates for Full-Service Intelligent Mail Barcodes (IMbs) kick in. But National Newspaper Association President Merle Baranczyk said NNA’s efforts had built in new options for many newspapers to avoid the full impact.
USPS to continue Saturday delivery

The National Newspaper Association today welcomed a decision by the U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors to continue Saturday mail delivery while it awaits postal reform legislation from Congress.
